Rent-Work Exchange: On-Site Property Organizer & Handyman Needed (North Cambridge)

Rent-Work Exchange: On-Site Property Organizer & Handyman Needed (North Cambridge)

Location: North Cambridge, MA (Walkable to Davis & Porter Squares, Red Line T)

Hours: 15 hours per week

Accommodation: Rent-free private room and access to...
all areas of the house

Availability: Immediate Opening (Painters arrive Aug 24 – Sept 1)

About the Setup: The house is a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home being readied to rent in a few months. The landlord lives right next door, making daily communication easy.

The house offers a rent-free room and access to all areas of the house to a young-at-heart, GLBTQ-friendly traveler, remote worker, or local tradesperson in exchange for 15 hours of weekly care, organization, and hands-on help.

What the House Needs (15 hours/week):

Immediate Painter Prep: The house has many bookcases that need to have shelves taken out. The remaining "hull" or bookcase shells need to be moved away from walls or put into the garage for additional shelving before painters arrive.

Project Supervision: While the main electrical and plumbing infrastructure tasks have already been met, supervision of ongoing work is necessary. This includes helping prep the space and overseeing professional painters arriving August 24.

Systems Awareness & Upkeep: The person living here needs to keep the place clean and orderly while remaining aware of the house's systems (water, air, electrical, plumbing) to help troubleshoot whatever more or else the house might need.

Garden & Yard Care: The garden and plants need watering, the compost needs tending, and some trees require basic pruning.

Handyman Tasks & Trade Skills: Light carpentry, basic painting, and eventually replacing the baseboards throughout the house.

Windows & Staging: The house needs new windows, so any connection to or expertise in the window replacement industry is a massive plus. You will also help with staging, organizing, and selling household items/furniture.

What the House Offers: A rent-free private room and access to all areas of a 3-bedroom house in a premium neighborhood. A flexible schedule perfectly suited for someone who travels for work or works a remote job. A collaborative, welcoming environment next door to the landlord.

Licensing & Experience Note:While this is a casual work-exchange, individuals with active trade licenses and their own liability insurance are highly preferred and will be prioritized.
